Entwined Histories
A celebration of community and history
Gary designed this column as a celebration of the strength of the local community at Myatts Field in Brixton, south east London.
The concept came from a local story of a local resident caring for and growing a tangerine tree from a seed brought over from the Caribbean. Gary saw the story as a symbol of the endurance and spirit of the community and devised the design to celebrate that.
The column reflects the fruiting tree. It's roots are human figures drawing nutrition from the local community and history, represented through a mosaic collage of collected photos drawn from the local community and archives.
