De Luci Fish Roundabout panorama

Erith Fish Roundabout - The de Luci Landmark Gateway sculpture

Glass mosaic covered sculpture of three entwined fish. The fish link to the historic coat of arms of the town, derived from the De Luci family who were granted to lands after the Norman conquest and perhaps to the origins of the slang term ‘Pikey’ which may have originated with the settling of travellers in the area who became serfs of the lord De Luci, the coat of arms of the De Luci family being three Lucy or Northern Pike fish. The colourful fish also represent the cleaning of the River Thames and the towns re-focussing as a riverside town.
