Gary painting the 'History of Medical Science' mural panels, chiaroscuro stage
On site, continuing the care to the end
All of Garys mural work is painted by himself and his assistants. Murals are usually painted directly on site, they can also be produced in the studio on a range of different substrates and then installed as panels. All installation operatives are CSCS accredited as Safety is the highest priority throughout our work.

Safety First
The first step in any installation is the site set up, a risk assessment helps inform the optimum safe environment for the work to begin. Gary has experience in setting up sites including: erecting suitable fencing and pedestrian safety restrictions; site facility set up; safety induction; statutory services notification and licensing; lightweight tower erection; and liaison with main contractors, other site sub-contractors, engineers and other officials. Previous projects have been installed in co-operation with main contractors including: Crispin & Borst; Carillion; Amey; Osbourne; Conway.
Painting or installing a mural
Most of Gary's mural projects follow a set sequence.
For most directly painted mural projects Gary uses the traditional Chiaroscuro technique, whether the mural is painted in Artists Acrylics, Keim Mineral paints or other mediums.
Occasionally a mural can also be produced off site in panel form in which case the mural is usually mechanically fixed to the wall.

1. Firstly the wall is primed with high quality gel medium followed by artists grade Acrylic Gesso Primer.
2. Your design is then transferred to the wall using the traditional square method.

3. The whole design is then painted in monochrome (Chiaroscuro)

4. Next the colours are laid over in transparent washes, Only the highest rated lightfast pigmented colours are used for the painting.
5. Painting continues until the work is finished.
6. Finally two coats of varnish are painted over the mural, if required this can include Anti Graffiti Varnish.
