The brief from Greenwich Hospital for this project was to liven up and add interest to the Paediatric A&E department with a Noah mural. This would normally conjure up Disney like animals two by two but Gary and Rob had other ideas.

Whilst they knew the Bible story they also knew the story from 'The Epic of Gilgamesh' and other earlier tales of great floods, this all linked with Sumerian culture and thus to one of the British Museum's little treasures, the 'Standard of Ur'. This beautiful mosaic from 3000BC set the tone for the mural that turned into an epic frieze. Combining elements of the different Flood stories.

Long horizontal friezes link with floor to ceiling vertical panels. The vertical panels represent the fauna of the different continents while the horizontal panels depict the narrative. Eventually the whole department was wrapped in the friezes and in the children's waiting room a giant ark mural was painted on the wall.
